Directory Listing Guide by Design Counsel – Be Seen. Be Heard. Be Found!
“The more you put into it, the more you get out of it”.
There’s the adage “the more you put into it, the more you get out of it”. So, with that in mind, I thought I’d write a quick guide on how to get the most out of your directory listing on Design Counsel.
These 6 steps form part of the submission process.
***Prior to starting the submission form on the site I highly recommend saving your business description and summary (steps 2 & 3 below) to your computer as listings submissions cannot be saved mid completion.***
1. Choose a package – check out our pre-launch special

2. Business Description
In this section you want to provide a description about what your business specialises in:
- Aim for between 3-4 paragraphs.
- Use bullet points where appropriate.
- Add a statement about what makes you different.
- Work your keywords or keyword phrases into the copy. Keywords could include brands you carry or, for example, an ethos ie, eco-friendly.
The summary is 160 character excerpt based on your business description.
Why is this important? It forms the little bit of intro text on the main landing page of a directory search list and also forms the page meta for SEO for your actual listing page.
Be sure to incorporate your most important keyword into the summary.
To make sure you come up in all the relevant searches in the directory, make sure you work out which categories your product or service fits into.
Please notify us if we need to add any categories to these sections. You can do this by clicking the link in the categories pages via the links above.
5. Full URLs
Anywhere a URL is required you will need to use the full URL address. Ie, http://www or https://www
6. Photo’s and logos
You can have up to 6 images on your listing (including your logo).
To get the most benefit out of your images and logo make sure they are:
- High Quality.
- Preferably horizontal layout.
- Named properly as this affects SEO. We’ve got a guide that covers this in section 6 – Learn more about naming images for better SEO.
